Winning Big at Bigler

By: Jubilee DelGado/Staff Artist

Although it may have taken place on Friday the Thirteenth, Blue Ridge didn’t have bad luck at this year’s Tom Bigler conference hosted by Wilkes University. Blue Ridge High School was well represented by their Journalism and AP Government classes as well as the year book committee, and had many different writings submitted for the competition. The Raider Reader web master, Daniel Tierney, the Co-Editors in Chief, Jessica Marvin and Li Ling Lee, as well as the Raider Reader staff as a whole, went home with awards and recognition in the following categories:

First in Documentary/Broadcast (Li Ling Lee for Blue Ridge Takes on the Big Apple)

First in News/Feature Photography or Video (Jessica Marvin for What is Día de Muertos?

Honorable Mention in Opinion/Editorial piece ( Jessica Marvin for Salads do not Count as Vegetarian Options)

Best Online Layout and Design

The Raider Reader was also proud to take home the Excellence in Journalism Award.
