On January 11, three Blue Ridge seniors won medals in the 2016 Scholastic Art Awards in the Northeastern Pennsylvania Art Region.
Dorie Penny won an honorable mention for her sculpture titled “What Once Was.”.She also won a silver key medal for her portfolio which contained eight different art pieces, such as two water color paintings, two digital paintings, two sculptures, an acrylic painting and an oil painting.
Jade Viruet won a silver key for her sculpture titled “New Life.” Desiree Alvarez won a gold key for a mask she made which is called “The Bean.”
Awards will be presented to the students on Saturday, January 30th at 1 pm. Marywood University is sponsoring this event and will display their artwork from January 30th through February 17th. The exhibition is going to take place in the Latour Room at the Nazareth Student Center at the University.
The Alliance for Young Artists and Writers recognizes teens with artistic and literary abilities, and displays their work through The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
