On November 21st and 22nd, the fifth through eighth grade will be performing The Little Mermaid, in the district auditorium.
In the past, the plays have only been 6th-8th grade, and Amy Zakarauskas, the director/high school music teacher, says she is very excited to have the fifth graders be a part of the production.
“There’s not enough time in the school year to have an elementary musical,” says Zakarauskas.
She is hoping for the kids to begin falling in love with theater at an even younger age and to give them even more experience honing their craft. The “kids meet cast” will be held at 1pm on Saturday before the show.
Last year when the middle school performed Seussical Jr. it was a big success, and they’re hoping for the same effect.
There will be activities, crafts, food, games, and opportunities for kids of all ages to meet the show characters like Ariel, Ursula, Sebastian and Flounder.
Many high school students are also helping with the production.
Ms. Z says, “A show of this size and scope would be hard to pull off without such a motivated and seasoned team of veteran actors.”
