On October 29, 2019, the Blue Ridge chapter of the National Honor Society conquered their second tire clean-up at an illegal dumpsite on Route 11 in New Milford, Pennsylvania, across from New Milford Hardware. Many high schoolers took the day off to get very, very dirty, and help make a difference in our local community.
Even though the students were soaked and covered in mud, their hard work made an extreme impact on the illegal dumpsite. Many tires were retrieved from the swamp land, and the tire service picking up the tires couldn’t even fit all of them in one load!
Given the success of last year’s tire clean-up (Read Allyssa Johnson’s re-cap of the 2018 tire clean up, “NHS Tire Cleanup,” here.), many students were excited to get their hands dirty yet again, or for the first time. Ms. Yeust, National Honor Society advisor, and Mr. Sokoloski accompanied the students in their muddy adventure.
National Honor Society member Jacob Morris attended the tire clean-up, and claimed it was “Nice, disgusting, but overall a really fun time.” He also said that the tire clean-up is a really good thing to do for our community.
