SADD Club – Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week: SADD club members placed red ribbons at every teacher’s door as part of the Red Ribbon campaign for drug prevention.

This past week the Blue Ridge High School SADD club held its annual Red Ribbon Week. You may be asking yourself, “What is Red Ribbon Week?”

Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug violence prevention campaign and it’s the largest and longest-running drug-use prevention campaign in the nation.

Blue Ridge SADD club members helped spread awareness through various daily activities, including sponsoring a student pledge and dress-up days.

Crazy sock day was held on Friday, November 4 to commemorate the Red Ribbon campaign. The Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.

SADD member McKenna Thomas, sophomore, says: “Monday students pledged to be drug free and signed a banner. Students also wore a red ribbons to honor the campaign. On Wednesday students wore mix-match clothes, and lastly on Friday they wore crazy socks.”

Bobbie McCain the SADD adviser says the campaign is an opportunity to raise awareness and connect with students in a positive way.

“I just like to empower young people and give them tools to make the best decisions when they can when given difficult decisions.”

Thomas says, “Mrs. McCain’s inspiring words help many students at Blue Ridge.”
