Recap at the Ridge

By: Luciano Shea/Junior Writer

Here we are again for another RECAP AT THE RIDGE!! This is the final recap for the winter sport season. It is a short one, so we’re going to get right into it!!

Wrestling

First, the two regional qualifiers from Blue Ridge competed in the AA Regional Tournament in Williamsport. For Brice Woodruff, he fell twice to end his season going 0-2 at the tournament. The season may have ended in disappointment for Brice, but the season as a whole was a huge success. Brice, a freshman this year, should leave with his head held high because of his regional qualification.

On the other hand, Jackson Maby competed very well over the weekend in a loaded bracket with five returning state placers. He finished 2-2 overall in the tournament. Unfortunately, he will not be advancing to the state championship, placing 5th. Jack will be an alternate in the event one of the top four placers are unable to compete next weekend. The wrestling team will continue to work in the offseason and come back better than ever next year. Great job to the boys.

Mens’ Basketball

For the basketball team, their history making season could not go any further as they fell to Holy Cross 26-61 in the district championship game. The boys kept it close going into halftime only down by eight. Holy Cross made the adjustments needed and came out on fire, outscoring Blue Ridge 37-10 the rest of the way. The Crusaders were all over the place on defense, forcing 24 turnovers. Hayden Hosie led the charge with 17 points. Despite the lack of offensive play from the rest of the team, Connor Cranage was involved in 23 of the 26 points with 15 coming from his own shots.

Although they ultimately came up short in the end, the boys were the most successful basketball team in school history. They will continue to make history next year. Congratulations to the boys and all their hard work!!

That will lead to the conclusion of this recap and the winter sport season. It was a successful year for the winter teams. Recap at the Ridge is here to stick around and will continue to cover sports here at Blue Ridge into the spring season. With that being said, we will take a break until games and competitions start back up for spring. We will see you later back for another RECAP AT THE RIDGE!!!
