On October 16th the Blue Ridge Lady Raiders faced off against the Elk Lake Warriors in their annual “pink out game.” Blue Ridge won their conference match against Elk Lake 3-0. The Raiders won the first set 25-10, second set 25-1, and third set 25-12. Junior, Makenzie Cook, had 18 aces on 26 attempts. Sophomore, Hunter Heeman, had 6 kills, and Junior, Alyssa Sherwood, had 7 kills. Senior Jerni Schell had 8 digs.
The game was only part of the excitement that night. Proceeds from the game went to Blue Ridge staff members who are battling breast cancer. Kathy Roe was presented with a gift bag by Junior Hunter Heeman.
The student section was a thunderous wave of pink. Students showed their support by purchasing shirts sold by the volleyball team. The proceeds from the sale also went to breast cancer awareness.
Junior Makenzie Cook said, “It’s such a great environment to play in. The student section is always a strong supporter and we get to play for a great cause. It’s even better when we get a win and get to celebrate like we did.”
