News In Brief: Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen Winners “Cash In”

Six students from Blue Ridge School District are big winners in annual writing contests sponsored by the VFW, Post 6223 in Great Bend.

Andrew Scott, a tenth grader, is the first place winner of the Voice of Democracy contest.

Scott says “I was surprised to find out I won and honored to have been a part of the contest. I’m glad that my work has been well received.”

The winners of the Voice of Democracy include:

1st Place- Andrew Scott, sophomore ($1,000)

2nd Place- Danielle Tierney, freshman ($600)

3rd Place- Mason Conklin, sophomore ($400)

The winners of the Patriot’s Pen include:

1st Place- Lillian Bleck, eighth grade ($500)

2nd Place- Kathryn G. Hinkley, eighth grade ($300)

3rd Place- Breanna Paterno, eighth grade ($200)
