Lady Raiders Clench First Home Game Win of the Season

By: Sarah Marble/Senior Feature Editor

The crowds went wild as the Lady Raiders varsity girls basketball team beat the visiting Forest City Foresters on Monday, January 27th. After a hard fought battle, the Varsity girls came out on top with a 44 to 33 win.

This season has been a battle for the Lady Raiders, as they have faced same trials and tribulations, but in the midst of it all, they have improved from past years; they have captured more wins this season.

The win was a result of the team working together to shut down one of the top shooters in the Lackawanna League. Freshman Lilly Bleck, Sophomore Rayne Glover, and Senior Ashley Torres were the top scorers of the night. Ashley Torres tied her highest scoring game of the season with racking in another 17 points. Torres, says she is “proud of her team and how far they have come for being a relatively young group. I hope that they will continue to grow and get better together in order to continue to gain more wins in the future.”

The points from each player are as follows:

  • Alexis Parks, sophomore: 2 points
  • Madison Gelinger, sophomore: 3 points
  • Reese Allen, sophomore: 4 points
  • Lilly Bleck, freshman: 8 points
  • Rayne Glover, sophomore: 10 points
  • Ashley Torres, senior: 17 points
