Game Review: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Patrick BrennanBusiness operations manager

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (rated M for Mature) is a game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Quebec; written by Jonathan DumontMelissa MacCoubrey and Hugo Giard; composed by The Flight, and produced by Marc-Alexis Côté.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is the 20th edition to the Assassin’s Creed trilogy, and there is no end in sight for this amazing franchise. In Assassin’s Creed Odyssey you will be able to choose one of two different “Misthios”, and live out their life. This Misthios has been exiled by their family for trying to save their sibling. We find out that you are the grandchild of King Leonidas using his mighty broken spear to assist you in your journey.

The game takes place in 431 BCE during the Peloponnesian war between the Spartans and the Athenians. You choose which side to assist in the war, but you will always be alone when you are exploring the lands of Greece. However, when you are about to take on a defend or attack mission you will be fighting alongside the faction of your choosing to fend off the other. All of Greece is able to be explored and everything is your jungle gym- you can practically climb anything, including all of the statues of the gods, even one of Zeus totally nude.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey introduces the use of a new ability wheel (which uses your adrenaline meter to use a multitude of different abilities, from melee to ranged weapons), a whole new skill menu, and a mercenary menu (where you can track down and hunt all of the foolish people who are trying to kill you). Ubisoft has also implemented another new menu, the “cultists” menu, which helps with hunting and killing the members of the “Cult of Kosmos”. The goal there is to stop them from obtaining the artifacts of the first civilization (which have special powers).

With the help of the mighty winged companion Ikaros you explore and discover many historical people and places all based on past events and places.  Another features allows you to take control of the Adrestia- a mighty ship that allows you to recruit lieutenants to help improve the ship’s stats with your partner Barnabas.

So take control of the land air and sea explore all of Greece as Kassandra or Alexios and remember, We Are Assassins.
