Featured Teacher- Kimberly Davenport

By: Kaylee Gelatt/Editor-In-Chief

When you hear the words, smiling, laughing, always cheerful what teacher does it make you think of? Many teachers come to my mind. But, if I had to recognize one and thank her for her dedication to our school, and myself it would be, Mrs. Davenport.

Mrs. Kimberly Davenport has been a part of the Blue Ridge family for eight years. Before teaching at BR, Davenport was a sales manager for her family’s business, The Mulligan Shopping Guide, and was also a co-owner of an educational toy stores in Clarks Summit and Kingston PA called The Golden Goose. She graduated from Penn State where she majored in Journalism and was a part of the award winning staffed newspaper.

Not only does Davenport have to balance teaching AP English 11, English 11, public speaking and a journalism class, she is also the advisor for the class of 2021 and has been for several years. Along with that, she has spent countless hours here at BR on the weekends, coming into school earlier and staying later. Davenport has so much dedication for this school and her students.

One thing that really makes her stand out is her journalism class and teaching the importance of responsible journalism. Davenport pushes and fights for her students’ rights to be able to publish almost anything that they want. However, she also takes her journalism class to several different activities/conferences a year. In 2014, her journalism class went to the annual Tom Bigler Conference where she won “Advisor of The Year.” Every year the journalism class attends, they always come home with a new award, such as journalist of the year (Cayli Allen), and best photograph (Austin Harper).
