Day Trip to Bigler

By: Emma Davis/ Editor-in-Chief

Every year the Raider Reader staff prepares for the Journalism Conference held at Wilkes University. The journalism trip was open to all students if they planned on attending. The trip consists of hands-on workshops, a keynote speaker followed with rewards, and lunch. The teachers that accompanied the students were Kimberly Davenport along with Aimee Krause.

Keynote Speakers

The guest speakers Wilkes had provided for Bigler were Emmy award winning journalists Amy Dilger, a still photographer, and Kelly Dessove, a reporter through film. They were able to share the importance of visual journalism.

“We tell the story, through visuals.” Amy Dilger stated.

The two women work together to tell stories of others while being unfunded and for Dessove, the power lies with the impact visuals have that normal reporting might not have.

“With videos and visuals it’s their story it’s not our words. For me that’s where the power lies.” Kelly Dessove explained.
