Zoom for Everyone Starting 10-19

By: Peyton Gelinger/ News and Sports Content Manager

With four positive cases of COVID-19 and 70 students quarantined, the district was forced to temporararily impliment full online learning at Blue Ridge, according to the school’s superintendent, Matthew Button, this week.

Students, who were already using a hybrid framework for learning, were scheduled to return to a four-day in-school learning schedule on Monday, October 19 with at-home learning on Wednesdays while deep cleaning would take place. That plan has now changed.

For now, students will follow a half-day, fully-remote synchronous format for the week of October 19 through the 23rd, a result of substitute teacher shortages, as 11 staff members are in quarantine. That means all students will be attending Zoom classes with both A and B groups simultaneousy for this week.

For the week of October 26 through the 30th, students will follow the current hybrid-blended schedule that has been in place for the last eight weeks, with one small difference. Students at home will be on Zoom. The schedule is as follows: Monday, October 26 and Tuesday, October 27, group A students attend in person; group B is remote and on Zoom. On Wednesday, while deep cleaning takes place, Groups A and B are remote and on Zoom together; and Thursday and Friday, October 29 and 30, group B is in-person while group A is remote on Zoom. The two-tier bussing schedule will be followed.

Pending Board approval, starting Monday, November 2, and until further notice, students will be following a hybrid-blended schedule and one-tier bussing will return. Families will be using one of three options:

  • Full in-person on each day except Wednesday which remain remote.
  • A hybrid schedule where students remain in their current group A or group B assignments and attend two days in-person and three days remote.
  • Full remote with two options: synchronous, following the daily schedule; or the BRSD Virtual Academy (VLN).

The school board is scheduled to meet on Monday, October 19 to vote on the proposal.

The school board meeting can be accessed at:

If planning to attend virtually, the Board requests attendees create a Zoom account ahead of time to establish a screen name that lists both a first and last name. Zoom accounts can be created on a PC or through an IOS or Android app.
