Cranage Joins 1,000 Point Club

By: Madison Makosky/Junior Writer

BR boys basketball player Connor Cranage hit a huge milestone on February 7, 2023 when he scored a career total of 1,000 points.

BR Athletic Director Nick Swaha says, “Sometimes it’s unusual and sometimes it’s not unusual for someone to hit 1,000 points. I would say for a small school like us it is unusual.”

Swaha shared his enthusiasm on social media, posting: “…and with an early 3-pointer against Susquehanna, our very own Connor Cranage is now a part of the 1,000-point club.”

The last Blue Ridge student to score 1,000 points was Isabella Cosmello in 2017. Prior to that, the last boys basketball player to score 1,000 points was Sawyer Dearborn in 2013.

Cranage, a junior at Blue Ridge, says, “I feel so blessed to be able to score 1,000 points. All the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice paid off.”

Cranage plans to continue playing basketball in college.

“Basketball gives me so much peace and I don’t know how I would be able to walk away from the sport.”

Cranage says his family has helped him succeed.

“I have a lot of support from my parents,” he says. “They’ve sacrificed a ton for me.”

As a result, Cranage says he’s developed an internal motivation to work hard.

Wes Parks, the boys basketball coach, says, “Connor is an outstanding player and leader for our basketball team. He has taken his game to the next level.”

One of the best things about Connor is that he makes his teammates better.”
