News-In-Brief: Behind the Battle

By: Clarisa Millard, Madison Lord and Mykenzie Layton/ Senior Staff Writers

Are you ready for the annual battle of the birds—or rather, birdies? The highly anticipated badminton tournament will be held in the high school gymnasium on Tuesday, November 26, 2019. This yearly event was begun by former Blue Ridge Athletic Director and physical education teacher Jill Hoffman.

This popular tournament begins in the Blue Ridge physical education classroom where student teams playoff to qualify and play on the last day before Thanksgiving break.

According physical education teacher Sarah Stang Decker, “the top two or three teams from each PE class qualify for the tournament. However, if a team qualifies they do not HAVE to play in the tournament. They can opt out and the next best record in that class will qualify for the tournament.”
