Raider’s Edge Montgomery
By: Trey Hillard
A three run fifth inning was all the Raiders needed to seal the game.
Evan Aldrich and Nick Folk had lead-off singles in the bottom of the fifth to start things off. After a sacrifice bunt and shallow fly out to center, there were runners on second and third, two outs, and the top of the lineup coming to the plate. “I was trying to get a base hit; to make contact”, sophomore Jake Decker said after the game. Jake laced a single up the middle, which got underneath the center fielder’s glove to score all three runs.
Jake’s commitment to the win didn’t stop there. He threw a complete game with two earned runs and seven hits.
Montgomery scored one run in the first to lead off the game. Sauers reached first on an error, second on a bad pickoff attempt, and stole third, still with no outs. Farr singled to shallow left field to push the first run of the game across.
That one run would hold up until the fifth inning. Montgomery’s starter Matt Miller held Blue Ridge scoreless until that three-run fifth, leaving at least one runner on the first four innings.
Blue Ridge will play Lancaster County Christian on June 4 at Walter Stump Stadium in Pine Grove, PA. Game starts at 4:30.
