Band and Chorus Trip to Flordia

By: Kelbiegh Lankford and Taylor Dibble/Sophomore Writers

On Tuesday April 2, 2024 the Blue Ridge high school band and chorus traveled to Orlando, Florida. The chorus would perform at Universal’s City Walk, and the band at the UCF band clinic.

On the first day, they went to Cocoa Beach. After leaving the beach, they visited the Ron Jon Surf Shop and then headed to their hotel for the night.

On day two, the band and chorus kids went to Volcano Bay. Unfortunately, there was some bad weather causing them to go back to the hotel early. Later, they were given the option to go to the Universal City Walk for some food and shopping, while some of the other students chose to stay in at the hotel and go swimming.

On the third day, they visited Universal Studios before the chorus students had the privilege of performing on the City Walk. The chorus sang Last Words of David, Omnia Sol, Mission Impossible, and Longest Time. Additionally, the selected choir sang Wander Lonely as a Cloud.

Then the students were able to finish the rest of the day at Universal’s Universal Studio.

On the fourth day, the band was up early in the morning to go to the UCF band clinic. They were there for about 90 minutes and played Citadel by Frank Erickson. Everyone else had the option to go to Universal’s Island of Adventure or the Volcano Bay water park.

On the final day, they departed Florida at 8 AM and arrived back to the school at exactly 2 PM.
