Thursday, December seventh, the middle school and high school chorus exemplified their musical talents as they performed an arrangement of songs. They were conducted by the Blue Ridge High School choir director, Amy Zakarauskas, with accompanist, Kristen Burkhart.
The concert started with The Sixth Grade Chorus. They sang Winter Wonderland by Felix Bernard, arranged by Jeff Funk, The Lonely Sea by Vicki Tucker Courtney, and Feel Good by Tyson/Scott, arranged by Baker/Elliot.
Next was The Seventh and Eighth Grade Chorus. They performed Windy Nights by Gray, Where Go the Boats by Phyllis Wolfe, and Rise UP Shepherd and Follow, arranged by Roger Emerson.
We are excited to see how the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade will progress.
Last, the High School Chorus performed. The chorus began with Kua Rongo Mai Koe. Kua Rongo Mai Koe is a greeting song from New Zealand. It started with solos by Kyra Powell, and Spencer Renwick, as the rest of the chorus marched onto stage. It is shown below.
Next, the chorus sang The Runner by Joshua Rist, with soloist, Micah Mullen, and Silent Night by Franz Gruber, arranged by Rhonda Polay, with soloist, Sequoia Marriott. The chorus then sang No Matter by Brian Tate, as they intrigued the audience with their voices and synchronized swaying.
The chorus finished with Hallelujah Chorus, from The Messiah by Handel. It is tradition for the audience to stand when the Hallelujah Chorus is sung, so it was a unique experience for both the audience and the chorus as some of the audience stood.
All three choirs did a wonderful job and it will definitely be exciting to see what they have in store for the future.
