What do Blue Ridge teachers do when their students are stuck at home during Covid? They teach.
Mrs. Sarrah Dibble-Camburn didn’t let distance learning interupt her students’ art lessons. Instead she tasked her middle and high school students to create Halloween themed paintings during a week of Zoom classes.
“Since the art department has several classes in one period, we could not do our regular projects as Art I, II, III and portfolio. So, since we only had a half an hour, we painted a little of our Halloween painting together each day,” says Dibble-Camburn.
She asked students to use whatever they could find at home. As many students had only a pencil, Dibble-Camburn says she “rounded up brushes, paint, and canvas for any students who could get to the school to pick them up.”
How did the painting lesson turn out? Well Dibble-Camburn says “it went surprisingly well and I think most students enjoyed it. They put for a lot of effort and worked each class.”
The paintings are being displayed in the hall near the chorus room, and can be seen online at Artsonia Gallery.
