Movie Review: Joker (2019)

By: Ben Marble/Sophomore Writer

This is a spoiler free review!

Joker” arrived in theaters on October 4th, 2019 with a budget of 55 million USD. Within a week of its release, “Joker” already passed “IT: Chapter Two” in the box office, making over $984.7 million. This box office hit has now become October’s most successful movie release ever and the highest grossing R-rated film of all time, passing “Deadpool” in the box office, which was released on February 12th, 2016.

Forever alone in a world full of crime and evil, Arthur Fleck (Portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, also seen in movies like Gladiator” and Signs”) is a failed comedian. Arthur tries to seek connection as he walks the streets of Gotham City. Arthur has two sides to himself, his day job clown, and the mask he wears to feel like he is part of the world around him. Arthur begins his dark descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind, known as the Joker, after continuous lies, beating and bullying he deals with in everyday life.

“Joker” in my opinion was an excellent movie. Some viewers said it was “too terrifying” and “dark.” Some viewers walked out of the theater because of how dark and disturbing it was. I give Joker” a solid 9.5/10. It was a cinematic masterpiece, from the music to the cinematography, it was amazing! “Joker” came to theaters on October 4th, 2019 and is still in theaters today. If you haven’t seen “Joker” yet, I highly suggest you go see it before it leaves theaters.
