Acoustic rap is a new genre of music that Dylan Ander is pioneering. This junior business entrepreneurship and music major at Hofstra started professionally recording music in November of 2013.

Although he recently started to record professionally, music has always been a passion of Dylan Ander’s. He was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome at age five. According to MedicineNet.com, Tourette Syndrome is defined as, “A neurological disorder characterized by repetitive, stereotyped, involuntary movements and vocalizations called tics.” He could never find anything to stop the tics until he began to play the saxophone in third grade. He says that whenever he is playing music he has no symptoms of Tourrette’s. Saxophone is not the only instrument that he plays. He also plays the guitar, piano, bass guitar, harmonica and more. He also sings and often beat boxes in his music. He draws inspiration from both John Mayer and Eminem.

Ander wants to share his passion for music with others; he loves that the music industry yields every type of person.

Ander also writes his own songs—and has an interesting technique for doing so. He said, “I write the idea in my phone and sleep on it. I let my brain write the song and the next day it comes right to me.” Ander started songwriting at a young age: “I wrote my first sappy, corny love song in seventh grade,” he admits.

He is not working in the music business alone. Ander is working with Grammy Award winning Andy Maganello, a producer who has worked with several artists including 50 Cent, John Legend and Johnny Cash. Ander added, “Thanks to my manager, Jacob Kupin, for the sacrifices he has made for my dream to come true.”

Ander released his debut EP, Dylan Ander EP, in April 2014. This EP includes songs: Musician’s Song, Simple Days, Never Say, and Where the Wind Blows. Ander now has a new single coming out called, End of the Summer, which comes out September 16, 2014.
